Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) deeply regrets and strongly condemns an incident where learners who were in full school uniform were caught consuming alcohol during school hours.
This was after an extremely disturbing video circulated on various social media platforms where learners are found enjoying themselves with Crackling bottles.
The learners are alleged to be from Wongalethu High School in Mdantsane and were caught by Mdantsane Schools’ Safety Forum at the Highway Shopping Centre.
ECLB will investigate this unfortunate incident as a matter of urgency to establish exactly how the learners accessed liquor in full school uniform and a drastic action will be taken to curb this abhorrent behaviour by members of the community who sell alcohol to school children.
ECLB views this tendency as one of the most serious contraventions of the law and will always be treated with the contempt it deserves.
Tomorrow (3 May 2022) at 09h30 Eastern Cape Liquor Board officials together with the Forum and the SAPS will visit the school in order to probe this matter and immediately take the necessary action.
