The Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) has noted with great concern that some liquor traders use their liquor licences to organise special events, where DJs are invited to perform to patrons. This has potentially caused excessive public nuisance and noise pollution in our communities.
Secondly, DJ’s performance potentially attracts a huge amount of young people, which, if not appropriately regulated, may exacerbate underage drinking in our communities. Liquor traders are duly reminded that any special event where liquor is sold, is legislated for in terms of Section 20 (d) of the Eastern Cape Liquor Act, No 10 of 2003, which places certain requirements to apply for such occasions. Key among those requirements is the following:
- The application form obtainable at ECLB offices,
- Risk categorisation certificate issued by the Provincial SAPS Offices,
- Noise pollution certificate from your relevant municipality,
- Municipal concern for such event to take place.
Any event taking place within any establishment without formally lodging an application as contemplated in Section 20 (d) of the Act and approval granted by the Board, is deemed illegal and may lead to the Board taking drastic action against the owner/manager of such an establishment.
