MEC MLUNGISI MVOKO TO LEAD THE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM TO FIGHT UNDERAGE DRINKING IN GQEBERHA SCHOOLS

The MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs & Tourism, Mr. Mlungisi Mvoko, members of the Provincial Legislature and the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) Chief Executive Officer Dr Nombuyiselo Makala will lead the official launch of the Learner Ambassador Program for 12 schools from Kwazakhele, New Brighton and Zwide in Gqeberha.

Numerous reports show that alcohol consumption among school-going youth continues to be on the upward spiral.

In an endeavor to alleviate the scourge of underage drinking in the Eastern Cape, ECLB is rolling out an Ambassador Program targeting schools around the province.

The program seeks to create an environment where learner ambassadors educate other learners on the dangers of underage drinking.  This will ensure that adolescents receive information from their peers rather than adults and can engage freely with each other.

A total of 12 high schools will form part of the launch and each school has nominated four learners (2 boys & 2 girls) to become ambassadors of the ECLB messages on underage drinking.

Media is, therefore, invited to join MEC Mvoko in the official launch of the Ambassador Programme, which is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date: 07 February 2023

Time: 10h00

Venue: Daku Community Center, Kwazakhele Gqeberha
