RENEWAL OF LIQUOR TRADING LICENSE ENDED ON 31 DECEMBER 2022

RENEWAL OF LIQUOR TRADING LICENSE ENDED ON 31 DECEMBER 2022

Eastern Cape Liquor Board wishes to remind all licensed liquor traders that the final date for the renewal was on 31 December 2022 as legislated in the Eastern Cape Liquor Act No.10 of 2003.

Liquor traders who missed the deadline can still renew their licenses in the months of January and February 2023.  However, those who renew in January are charged an additional 50% late penalty fee of the normal renewal fee; and those who register in February are charged 100% penalty. We would also like to caution all liquor traders that there will be no further extension beyond 28 February 2023.The implication for liquor traders who fail to renew their liquor licenses is that their liquor outlets will be deregistered, and should they wish to trade again, they will be required to undergo the same process of attaining a liquor license.

It is important to note that liquor traders who have not renewed their licenses and continue to trade will be contravening the law, and necessary steps will be taken against them.

The failure to renew licenses compromises ECLB’s fight against the mushrooming illegal taverns in the province as majority of these liquor traders potentially resort to illegal trading. To avoid the de-registration of their liquor licenses, liquor traders must ensure that they renew their liquor licenses within the prescribed period.
