EASTERN CAPE LIQUOR BOARD TO LAUNCH ANTI PENS DOWN PARTIES IN MDANTSANE

As commencement of end-of-the-year examinations looms large, Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) will launch the Anti Pens Down Parties Campaign to raise awareness on the dangers of the repugnant Pens Down Parties culture.

Eastern Cape is still recovering from the devastating Enyobeni Tavern incident that resulted in the demise of 21 young people, which was a direct consequence of the Pens Down Parties.

The growing culture of Pens Down Parties that are organised by learners is increasingly of grave concern to the ECLB.

Recently, there have been reports of the Pens Down Parties being planned and hosted in East London and elsewhere in the province.

These parties are organised by learners to celebrate the end of examination period, and often learners excessively indulge in alcohol and expose themselves to danger that may culminate in fatality.

The launch will be led by the MEC Honourable Mvoko, MEC for Department of Education Honourable Gade, Office of the Executive Mayor of Buffalo City Metro, Faku, the Chairperson of Board of Directors Mr Gobingca and the Chief Executive Officer Dr Makala.

Details of the Launch are as follows:

Date:                                   19 October 2023
Time:                                 09h00
Venue:                              Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre
